Army Women’s Soccer Tames the Princeton Tigers to Close Out Non-Conference Play

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point women's soccer defeated the Princeton Tigers (1-3-3) by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon to close out non-conference play. With today's win, the Army Black Knights (6-2-1) head into conference play with an undefeated record at Malek Stadium.
Notably, senior Brigid Duffy scored her 22nd goal of her collegiate career and sixth of the season, bringing her point total to 51 on her career. With her 22nd goal, she now sits two goals away from 10th all-time in career goals in program history. Additionally, sophomore Makaela Morrell scored her first collegiate goal, which ended up being the game-winner in the 49th minute.

- The Black Knights pushed early in the game with multiple shots and drives up field in the beginning minutes of the match.
- Army broke through at 10:43 with senior Brigid Duffy's 22nd collegiate goal. Duffy took a ball up across the midfield and speed past two Princeton defenders. She stopped at the top of the box and took a left footed strike that hit the bottom right post and took a favorable bounce to make it 1-0.
- The lead would not last long, as the Tigers would strike back a minute later with a goal of their own to tie it up.
- Both teams went to the half time break tied 1-1 and tied in shots at five a piece.
- Coming out of the halftime, the Black Knights broke thru with the eventual game-winner at 48:32. Sophomore Grace Burns collected the errant ball in the box and took a shot toward the net. As the ball was coming in, sophomore Makaela Morrell headed it up and past the Princeton goaltender.
- The Black Knights added an insurance goal in the 71st minute off the foot of junior Sabrina Rogers. Sophomore Bella Conti dropped a beautiful cross across the top left of the box. The ball was initially popped up by a Princeton defender but not out. Rogers tracked the ball and hit it out of the air into the back of the net.
