How It Happened
- The Black Knights struck first at the 7:53 mark of the opening period when Adam Marshall finished a setup from Vincent Salice to put Army ahead 1-0. Marshall tracked down the loose puck after a wide shot in the defensive end and pushed it up ahead to Salice. Salice picked up the puck, while Marshall skated up creating a 2-on-1 situation. Salice slid the puck across to Marshall at the hash marks and Marshall place a perfect shot right underneath the blocker to give the Black Knights the early lead.
- Army controlled the first 20 minutes, outshooting the U-18 Team 16-6 and taking the one-goal advantage into the first intermission.
- The Black Knights continued to pressure offensively in the second period, but Gerry DiCunzolo scored at 12:14 to even the game at 1-1.
- Army fired 14 shots in the middle frame and held a significant edge in possession but was unable to solve the U-18 Team goaltender a second time.
- USNDTP scored at 8:06 of the third period to give the visitors their first lead of the night.
- Marshall nearly tied the contest with just over five minutes remaining, ringing a shot off the post, that was initially ruled as a goal but after a review it was turned over.
- The Black Knights pulled their goaltender late and continued to attack, but USNTDP sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 18:28 of the third period.
