Gymnastics Makes History at USAG Collegiate Nationals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Army West Point gymnastics made history this weekend at the USAG Collegiate Nationals on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Notably, the Black Knights collected their first ever USAG Collegiate National Team Title and Nick Lester was the USAG National Title event winner in the Vault. Additionally, Army earned seven USAG All-Americans accolades between five gymnasts and Army earned the coaching staff of the year.
On Friday afternoon, the Black Knights collected a 315.050 to secure their first USAG Collegiate National event title. The Black Knights earned a 54.000 on the Pommel Horse to tie a team season high on the apparatus. Additionally, the recorded new season highs in the vault with a 53.850 and Parallel Bars with a 51.800.
In the team floor exercise, Thomas Morrow was the highest qualifier with a 13.300, which was tied for fifth place and Nick Lester tied for seventh place. In the Pommel Horse, Maddox Pabellon took home first place with a 14.300 tying a season high on the apparatus, while Noah Duran finished in fourth place with a 13.650. On the Vault, Nick Lester was the highest finisher with a fourth-place finish and a 13.900 and both Cash Johnston and Noah Duran finished in fourth and fifth respectively on the Parallel Bars. In the final event of the team competition, the Horizontal Bar, the Black Knights took home sixth place with Jaden Blank and tied for seventh place with Jake Prabhakaran and Cash Johnston.
Coming out of the team even the Black Knights qualified six gymnasts for individual event finals on Saturday afternoon with the opportunity to earn USAG All-American status by placing the top six. The following qualified for the finals: Nick Lester, Thomas Morrow, Maddox Pabellon, Noah Duran, Cash Johnston and Jaden Blank.
The Black Knights earned seven USAG All-Americans accolades between five gymnasts. Lester earned USAG All-American in both vault and floor exercise, while taking home the event title in the Vault. Both Noah Duran and Maddox Pabellon earned USAG All-American on the Pommel Horse coming in fourth and third place. Duran also earned USAG All-American in the Parallel Bars with a third-place finish and both Jaden Blank and Cash Johnston earned All-American on the Horizontal Bar
