HOW IT HAPPENED
The Black Knights threw down the gauntlet early in Saturday's contest as Hill Plunkett cracked open the scoring for Army just 27 seconds after the first whistle as he buried a shot past the Greyhounds' keeper under pressure from the defense.
Loyola's defense closed in in the following minutes as saves from both games held the score at 1-0 for the next six minutes.
After a shot clock violation for the Greyhounds gave Army the ball, the Black Knights strung together a quick set of passes up the field, allowing Mike Harney to sneak around from the back of the goal and slip a shot past the Greyhounds' goalkeeper's left foot and into the back of the goal to double Army's lead.
Harney's tally sparked a push from the black knights with a trio of shots from the Black Knights before Brayden Fountain buried a shot of his own with 6:22 left on the clock after a series of passes gave him an open line at the goal.
Robert Simone held the momentum in Army's favor as he claimed a faceoff win and blitzed up the field to score Army's fourth goal of the day only five seconds after Fountain's goal.
The Greyhounds found their stride in the final minutes of action of the first frame, putting together a 4-0 run of their own over a two and a half minute stretch to bring the score tied at four goals apiece heading into the first quarter break.
The Black Knights renewed their challenge in the second quarter with a quick pair of tallies two minutes into the second frame.
Aiden Weisenborn fed Gunnar Fellows a pass in front of the goal from outside the arc where Fellows turned in place and fired it past Loyola's keeper to take a 5-4 lead.
Army returned on the attack after a faceoff win for the Black Knights as CJ Monturio found Sam Ralston in an open patch of grass for a pole goal at 12:24 on the clock.
The Greyhounds fought back, battling hard on the ground for the next few minutes on the clock before the home team closed the gap to one goal once more at 8:43 on the clock.
The Black Knights picked up the pace, firing off a barrage of shots as the clock ticked down on the second quarter until Brayden Fountain recorded his second goal of the game just under the five-minute mark on a setup from Evan Plunkett.
Army kept its foot on the gas until the final whistle as Jimmy Manley collected a ball from the sideline after a wide shot from the Greyhounds and found Brayden Fountain in front of the goal with one second on the clock for Fountain's second hockey-style chip-in goal of the season to give the Black Knights a 9-5 lead heading into halftime.
The scoring proficiency of Army's sophomore class reared its head in the third quarter as Aiden Weisenborn added a pair of goals to extend Army's lead to six goals.
Weisenborn first hit his mark on the run around the left side of the goal two minutes out of the halftime break before capitalizing on a strong string of passes from Army's attackers midway through the quarter to secure his second goal of the day.
In an effort to regain ground in front of their home crowd, the Greyhounds battled to score the first goal of the fourth frame, sneaking the ball past Sean Byrne in goal 80 seconds into the fourth quarter to cut Army's lead to four goals.
Gunnar Fellows notched his second goal of the day two minutes later to maintain Army's buffer as the Black Knights settled in to fend off an aggressive Loyola offense in the waning minutes of play.
The Black Knights maintained their dominance over the scoresheet through the midpoint of the fourth quarter as Hill Plunkett put away his second goal of the game with a step-down shot at 7:40 on the clock.
Loyola stepped up their efforts as the clock ticked on, notching their eighth and ninth goals of the game in the next three minutes to pull Army back within four goals once more.
Army's squad kept its foot on the gas, however, and the Black Knights regained their six-goal lead as Evan Plunkett got around two defenders with 2:26 on the clock to score on an open goal before Brayden Fountain delivered on a shot to score his fourth goal of the day with 1:09 left on the clock.
Robert Simone claimed his seventh faceoff win of the game and the Black Knights held onto the ball to secure their 15-9 win over the Greyhounds on the road.
