Army Drops Debut in Service Academy Showdown

USAFA, Colo. – Army West Point women's soccer opened its 2026 campaign on the road against a fellow service academy, falling 4-1 to Air Force on Thursday evening at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The setback drops the Black Knights to 0-1-0 on the young season, while the Falcons improve to 1-0-0.
The academies traded blows early, but Air Force controlled much of the possession and the Falcons struck ?rst when Maddy Walsh buried her opening goal of the match in the 21st minute, capping a stretch in which the Falcons had poured on the pressure with six corner kicks and a ?urry of shots in the game's ?rst 20 minutes.
Army answered less than eight minutes later. In the 29th minute, Daisy West netted the equalizer on a free kick that sailed past the keeper high left and leveled the score at 1-1. West was Army's most dangerous attacker all afternoon, ?nishing with a team-high two shots and a goal on the day. Goalkeeper Karalyn Dail did her part to keep it a one-goal game at the break, turning aside three of her four saves in the ?rst half as Air Force out-shot Army 10-4 in the period.
The second half belonged almost entirely to Air Force. The Falcons broke the 1-1 deadlock just under two minutes after the restart when Annika Jost found the net on a free kick in the 46th minute, and they never looked back. Air Force extended the lead to 3-1 in the 53rd minute on a header from Jordan Dillingham, assisted by Jost's corner kick — part of a strong two-way performance from Jost, who also led all players with four shots on the afternoon. Walsh capped her multi-goal effort in the 59th minute, scoring her second of the match on a breakaway to make it 4-1 and put the outcome out of reach.
Even after weather conditions moved the final 26 minutes indoors, Army continued to battle, generating four second-half shots — including bids from preseason All-Patriot League selections Grace Pohlidal and Bella Conti — but Air Force keeper Trishelle Lopez was up to the task, finishing with two saves and just one goal allowed for the match.
