Henry's Late Strike Lifts Women's Soccer Past Cornell in Final Minutes
September 10, 2026 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Sophia Henry scored with 85 seconds remaining to lift Army West Point women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Cornell on Thursday at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field in Army's non-conference finale. The Black Knights improved to 3-6-0 on the season, while Cornell fell to 2-3-2.
Army head coach Tracy Chao was proud of her team's complete 90 minute performance.
The game remained scoreless through more than 88 minutes before Henry broke through, finishing off an assist from Makaela Morrell to give Army the late lead and, ultimately, the win. It was the difference-maker in a back-and-forth match that saw both teams create chances throughout.
Karalyn Dail was the backbone of the win in net, turning away six shots to secure the shutout, including saves on Andrea Wilson and Alanna Colbert in the second half as Cornell pushed for a go-ahead. Dail stopped all six shots on goal she faced, keeping the Big Red off the scoreboard despite Cornell out-shooting Army 15-11 on the night.
Grace Pohlidal paced the Army attack with four shots, and Henry added a second shot attempt earlier in the game that was saved by Cornell goalkeeper Sofia Kerrigan. Morrell, Ragon Francy and Lily Marquez also had shots on goal as the Black Knights pressed relentlessly for an opening before finally finding one in the closing minutes.
Army out-cornered Cornell 5-3 on the day and got key second-half substitutions to pay off, with Henry, Morrell and Marquez all factoring into the attack down the stretch.
