Men’s Rugby Set for Star Match in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point men's rugby team is set to take on service academy rival Navy in the annual men's rugby star match on Saturday. The match is the second edition in the Star Series Presented by USAA, one day after the Sprint Football star competition in Annapolis.
Kickoff for Saturday's match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Annapolis at the Prusmack Rugby Center. YouTube will carry the live stream.
"We're excited for the game. Both teams are playing good rugby and will come in confident, but our focus is where it always is, on us. We want to keep climbing, keep getting better, and put the best version of Army rugby on the field Saturday. In doing so, we believe we'll put ourselves in a strong position to earn a victory," said head coach Matt Sherman.
The Black Knights enter the contest 3-0, with the matchup marking Army's first Rugby East match of the 2026-27 season. The Midshipmen also hold a 3-0 record to start the season, alongside a 1-0 start in conference play.
Army heads into the Star Match looking for its first win over Navy since the 2021-22 season, a 24-17 victory after the Black Knights scored a try in the 73rd minute.
Last time out, Army defeated St. Thomas (Fla.) 73-17, which marked their second game scoring at least 70 points this season. Chance Loudenback led the scoring with a career-high four tries, followed by Porter Kuebler with two tries, and five other Black Knights who scored a try. Nick Trout tallied 18 points for Army on nine conversions.
Trout leads the Black Knights in points scored this season with 53 points, followed by Howie Heller, Kuebler, and Loudenback who are tied with 20 points apiece.
Army continues its road play on Oct. 3 at Penn State with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
