WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point women's soccer fell to unbeaten Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College, 2-1, Sunday at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field on the 40th anniversary of Army Women's Soccer's first ever varsity game on September 6, 1986.

Emily Mara scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Eagles (6-0-0, 0-0-0), who improved to 6-0 on the season, while Army dropped to 2-6-0.

Boston College controlled much of the possession and generated 21 shots on the afternoon — a season high faced by the Black Knights — but Karalyn Dail stood tall in net, turning away five shots to keep Army within striking distance throughout.

Addison Kalaw opened the scoring for BC in the 30th minute off an assist from Mara, and Mara doubled the lead early in the second half. Army answered right back, as Maddi Woodward converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, capping a sequence that began with back-to-back shots from Leila Castell.

The Black Knights continued to push in the second half, with Ragon Francy, Daisy West and Ailyn Rowe all testing BC goalkeeper Olivia Shippee. Dail turned away several more Boston College looks down the stretch, including stops in the 74th and 82nd minutes, as Army held firm defensively against a high-volume Eagles attack that also rang the woodwork three times.

Despite facing a season-high shot total, Army limited Boston College to just two goals on the day and got instant offense out of its lone penalty-kick chance. The Black Knights will look to build on Dail's performance and the resilience shown in net as they continue their season at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
