October 19, 2014 | Rifle
Army (2-2, 1-1 GARC) was outpointed by Nebraska in both disciplines, bowing 2319-2290 in smallbore and 2340-2330 in air rifle.
Gestl, firing individually in smallbore, tied her career mark of 580, and Martin recorded a career high 587 in air rifle, besting his previous mark by four points, for Army's highest score of the season in that discipline.
Gestl's mark in smallbore was just three points behind medalist Denise Martin (583) and one shy of runner-up Laure Philips' (581) score. Her 580 is tied with Martin for the highest score of the season.
Allen Solida turned in a season high 576 that earned sixth in smallbore followed by Martin's 573, Danielle Cuomo's 572 and Marvin Lewis's 569 to round out Army's four-man firing unit whose mark of 2290 was just two points shy of its season high. The Black Knights firing unit was comprised of three sophomores - Solida, Cuomo and Lewis - and a freshman (Martin).
Martin's 587 in air rifle was just two points shy of leader Jaycee Carter and one off runner-up Maggie Mical's score of 588.
Joining Martin on Army's scoring unit were junior Olivia Nardone, who equaled her season high 586 in earning a share of fourth place, Gestl (579) and Solida (578) as that foursome combined for a 2330. Cuomo, firing individually, posted a season-high 582 in tying for eighth place.
The Black Knights return to action next week taking on GARC rival North Carolina State in Lexington, Va., on Oct. 25.
