Army Completes Opening Day at Farnsworth Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Army West Point men's tennis team sent a portion of its members to the Farnsworth Invitational hosted by Princeton where four players were able to earn spotless records on Friday.
In singles play, sophomore Daniel Zheng won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, while freshman Grant Patterson flipped that for his two-set victory, 6-3, 6-4. Juniors Sam Lampman and Grant Riechmann also won their singles matches. Lampman won in straight 6-4 sets while Riechmann needed a tiebreaker in the first set before pulling away in the second with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-1. Additionally, Patterson won his doubles match 6-5 being partnered with sophomore Michael Sienko.
The Black Knights won four of their seven doubles matches led by the tandem of Zheng and senior Joey Hatala who finished the first day with a 2-1 record. After taking the first match 6-5, the duo needed a tiebreaker to take the second match 7-6. They would drop their third match 3-6. Lampman and Riechmann won the fourth of the doubles matches for the team with a 6-3 victory before falling in their second-match tiebreaker, 6-7 (4).
Army will be back in action tomorrow, Sat. Oct. 10, at 10 a.m.
