Men's Tennis Eyes Farnsworth Invitational
October 08, 2015 | Men's Tennis
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team has another split weekend as parts of the team will be competing in the Farnsworth Invitational, hosted by Princeton, and the Dartmouth Invite from Oct. 9-11.
There will be 15 teams competing in the Farnsworth Invitational, including Binghamton, Boston College, Bucknell, Drexel, Farleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Lehigh, Marist, Monmouth, NJIT, St. John's, Temple and Wisconsin. The tournament will be played in flights with doubles play starting at 9 a.m. each day with the singles matches to follow. There will be seven singles draws and two for doubles.
"We're looking forward to a great weekend against some of the top teams in the east," said head coach Jim Poling. "There will be some great tennis. Our guys are working hard and feeling confident. We hope to win some big matches this weekend."
Coming off a weekend that saw the Black Knights have success in the Boise State Invite and host their second event of the year with the Army Invite, the team is looking to make some final adjustments before the ITA Regional Tournament two weeks from now. In Boise, junior Kyle Barnes and senior Austin McCasin made it to the semifinals of the doubles draw and junior Sam Lampman advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles draw.
"Coming out of Boise, Sam Lampman, Kyle Barnes and Austin McCasin are feeling much better," said Poling. "They feel like they can compete with and beat anybody in the nation. That's why we schedule these two weekends close to each other so these guys can build and get better. That's been our goal the entire season: to have everyone get better in the fall. I think that our doubles play has been very good so far. I've been very pleased with that. We're going to work a little more on singles this week, focusing a lot more on rallying, consistency and patters."
