Rifle Hosts No. 2 TCU in Sunday Showdown

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point rifle welcomes No. 2 TCU this Sunday morning at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center. The Black Knights, ranked ninth in the latest College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) rankings, start at 9 a.m. against the Horned Frogs in their first home NCAA match of the year. Army is 1-4 this season while TCU enters at 7-0.

LAST TIME OUT
The Black Knights traveled to take on then No. 3 West Virginia down in Morgantown, W.Va. Army posted respectable scores but fell to the Mountaineers 4709-4653. The three-time defending NCAA Champion Mountaineers moved back into the top spot of the CRCA rankings this week.

Army had its best outing of the season in smallbore shooting a 2317 and its second-best aggregate score (4653). The Black Knights air rifle score of 2336 was tied for its third-best mark of the year.
Freshman Nathan Brewer had the team's top aggregate score of 1167. His 582 in smallbore was matched by teammate junior Danielle Cuomo. Senior Alyssa Gestl placed sixth in air rifle in the match with a 588 score, Army's best score in that respect.

BREWER & GESTL CONTINUE TO SHOOT WELL
Brewer and Gestl have been steady for the Black Knights over the last two matches. Brewer tied his career-best score of 585 in air rifle last week in addition to posting a team-high for this season and career-best 586 smallbore in the President's Trophy Match. Gestl, after tying her career-high in air rifle with a 590 two weeks ago, paced the team with a 588 at West Virginia, tied for the second-highest mark this season by a Black Knight.

LOOK AT TCU
The Horned Frogs have been strong the past three weeks, posting scores of 4708, 4702, and 4695. Last week, they topped Ohio State 4695-4658 at home.

Hannah Black and Mindy Miles are each averaging 1173.43 in aggregate score. Miles is averaging 594.71 in air rifle while posting a 598 on three occasions. While Black does not have the same peak numbers of Miles, she has been consistent across air rifle (591.43 average) and smallbore (582.00).

This is TCU's last match before nearly a two-month break as the fall portion of its schedule comes to a close.

NEXT UP: VMI
Army will close out the fall schedule with VMI on Saturday, Dec. 5. The Keydets are 1-5 and have the next two weekends off before coming to West Point.
With VMI currently unranked, it would be Army's first NCAA match against an unranked opponent this season.
