Women's XC to Compete at Battle in Beantown
September 24, 2015 | Women's Cross Country
BOSTON – The young women's cross country team at Army West Point will be tested this weekend as it is set to compete at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College, on Friday, Sept. 25. The women's meet will begin at 3 p.m.
The 24-team field includes four nationally-ranked schools: fourth-ranked Georgetown, ninth-ranked Providence, 19th-ranked Syracuse and 25th-ranked Dartmouth.
"We put this meet on the schedule because it is the site for our regional championship in Nov.," said director of track and field and cross country Mike Smith. "Our top runner, Lindsay Gabow, will gain valuable experience on this course and have a chance to race against some of the best women in the country. Our women's team, as a whole, is young and inexperienced, and this meet will force them to get out of their comfort zone. I expect us to compete better than we did two weeks ago. We have been raising the bar in practice, and I expect us to continue to improve as we build toward the championship meets in Oct. and Nov."
The Black Knights last competed in the Brother Jasper Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., on Sept. 11. They won two of the five dual meets being led by Gabow, who finished seventh overall with a 5K time of 18:12.5. Freshman Abby Halbrook has also been a bright spot this season, posting an 11th-place finish last weekend following her second-place finish in the season-opening dual meet with Maine.
