September 26, 2015 | Women's Cross Country
BOSTON – The Army West Point women's cross country team competed in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown finishing 19th out of 24 teams Friday afternoon.
Senior Lindsay Gabow led the way once again for the Black Knights, crossing the finish line at 18:16.2. She finished 86th in the field of 202 runners. This was Gabow's fourth-consecutive race finishing first for Army. Fellow senior Madison Hill came in 95th overall with a time of 18:23.7 in her first race of the season. She finished second for Army.
"I thought Madi Hill did a nice job in her first race since last fall," said director of track and field and cross country Mike Smith. "She measured the course and moved up very well."
Freshman Payton Padgett was the No. 3 for the Black Knights, finishing the course in 18:56.6. The other two scoring contributors were Cassie Mundekis, who finished with a time of 19:50.4, and Sarah Jeon, who finished in 19:52.8.
"Some of our freshmen performed much better today," said Smith. "Payton Padgett stepped up as well and will keep moving closer to our top women. While that bodes well for the future, we were unable to get everyone to click today. As a result, we fell short of our goals. We will keep pushing in practice and focus on the process of getting better each day."
Providence came away with the victory placing three runners in the top-10. Syracuse came in second, followed by Georgetown, Purdue, and Lipscomb.
