September 29, 2015 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Fresh off an overtime victory at Lafayette on Saturday night, the Army West Point women's soccer team travels to Worcester, Mass., to meet Holy Cross on Wednesday evening. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and it can be seen on the Patriot League Network.
Army is one of four teams positioned at the top of the Patriot League standings through two games. Boston University, Colgate, Loyola and the Black Knights all have a win and a tie to this point. Army is coming off a 1-0 triumph in which Katie Holder lifted the Cadets past Lafayette with a brilliant strike off the post and into the Leopards' net. Holder's fourth marker of the year came with one second remaining in the first overtime period.
Holder leads the team in scoring and ranks third in the conference in goals, and her 10 points is fifth among Patriot League players. The win at Lafayette was Army's first road victory of the season (1-5-1) and goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia collected her first shutout with two saves.
The Crusaders are searching for their first Patriot League victory of the season after playing Lehigh to a scoreless draw and falling on the road to Bucknell 2-0. Overall, Holy Cross is 3-5-2 on the year with three home wins over UMass Lowell, Saint Peter's and Bryant. As a team, Holy Cross has conceded 18 goals this season, which is the second most in the Patriot League and four less than Navy's 22. Offensively, Christina Callahan and Aly Spencer pace the Crusaders with three goals each, which is good for eighth in the conference. Courtney Cohen is tied for second in the Patriot League with four assists. In goal, Brooke Holle has played a majority of the games with seven starts. She owns a 1.36 goals-against average and a pair of shutouts.
In 27 all-time meetings, Army leads the series 18-5-4. The Black Knights are unbeaten in the previous two matches (1-0-1) after playing to a 1-1 draw last season. Hanna Rozzi scored for Army early in the second half of that game from a cross by Candace Stewart.
