AMHERST, MASS. – The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team opened its season with a 171-127 win on the road at UMass on Friday night.
"I'm very pleased with our season opener," stated head coach Mickey Wender. "Our attitudes and effort level were tremendous; it was a very good opening day. I'm very happy with our senior leadership. They scored an enormous amount of points for us. It bodes well for an exciting season to come."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army took first in the 200-yd medley relay as the team of Cecelia Croman, Kara Wineinger, Kelly Hamilton and Bailey Smith touched the wall first in 1:48.68.
- Hamilton also took first in the 100-yd backstroke with a time of 56.30 seconds, a little less than two seconds faster than Croman, who placed second in 57.96 seconds.
- Kaylie Breslin took home first place in the 200-yd butterfly with a mark of 2:09.01.
- In the 100-yd freestyle, Monica Sowinski took first with a time of 52.85 seconds. Teammate Bri Romaine came in just behind her in 53.08 seconds.
- Josephine Marsh claimed the top spot in the 200-yd backstroke with a mark of 2:05.11.
