Women’s Lacrosse Faces Mid-Week Test at Holy Cross

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team aims for its first Patriot League victory when it faces Holy Cross on Wednesday, March 30 at 5:35 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.

Army slipped to a 19-9 defeat at Bucknell in its first Patriot League road contest of the year on March 26. The Black Knights fell behind, 9-0, early before trailing, 10-3, after the first half. Freshman Manuela Cortes netted a season-best three goals to lead Army, while sophomore Amy Johnston found the back of the net twice.
The Black Knights are 3-1 in games played on weekdays this season, with victories coming against LIU Brooklyn, Presbyterian and Howard.
ARMY WEST POINT (5-5, 0-2 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Junior Erin Jollota, sophomore Rachel Hornick and freshmen Nikki Polhamus and Rachel Treweeke all tallied single goals in the Bucknell game.
• Army enters the week sixth among Patriot League schools with 9.60 goals per game, but the Black Knights are averaging 10.8 goals per outing over their last five contests.
• Johnston leads Army with 21 goals on the year, while Hornick (17 goals), Polhamus (14) and Cortes (10) have also scored in double figures.
• The Black Knights average 19.70 shots per game thorough 10 contests, but have generated more attempts over the last week, with their top two shot totals of the year coming in the last two games (37 shots vs. Howard, 3/22; 27 shots at Bucknell, 3/26).
HOLY CROSS (1-9, 1-1 PATRIOT LEAGUE) NOTES
• Holy Cross is coming off its first victory of the season, with a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Navy on March 26.
• The Crusaders fell behind, 4-3, by halftime before scoring three of the first four goals to begin the second half and build a 6-5 advantage.
• Navy knotted the game at 6-6 with 14:00 remaining, but senior MacKenzie Bozel scored the go-ahead goal 1:43 later to put Holy Cross ahead for good.
• Senior Kaitlin Concilio paces the Crusaders with 10 goals, 10 assists and 20 points on the season.
UP NEXT
Army returns to West Point to host Navy for the first time in program history on Saturday, April 2 at noon. Saturday's game against the Midshipmen will be sponsored by St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
