Golf Set to Defend Title at Wofford Invite
April 10, 2016 | Men's Golf
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point golf team is set to defend its title at the Wofford Invitational April 11-12, at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Â
"It is great to be back in Spartanburg for the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational where the team had a nice win last year," said head coach Brian Watts. "It's always tough to defend the title, but the team is playing well and this is the time of year you need your players feeling comfortable making a lot of birdies. The golf course is in great shape and the greens are a bit firmer and faster than last year, so I wouldn't expect the scores to be as low as last year."
Â
Last year the Black Knights won the tournament at 30-under which was one shot shy of the tournament record. Justin Pagila was the individual champion with an 11-under score.
Â
This year's team will be made up of Marcus Plunkett, Dean Sakata, Justin Pagila, Nick Turner and Matt Plunkett.
Â
There will be 16 teams in attendance alongside the Cadets including host Wofford, Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Bethune-Cookman, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, High Point, Longwood, Presbyterian College, Radford, Stetson and USC Upstate.
Â
The Country Club of Spartanburg features a 2 par course that plays at 6,648 yards. The teams will play 36 holes Monday and another 18 on Tuesday. Both days will be a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
