Men’s Track and Field Slated for Outdoor Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field team travels to Bucknell for the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Black Knights will kick-off the event with the 10,000 meter run tomorrow at 9 a.m.

Senior Tom Girardot and sophomore Dawson Hillis each won on the men's side at the outdoor championships last season. His 9:00.11 run in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase. Girardot enters the weekend with the top time this season in the event by over seven seconds, with his best run being 9:03.72 in 2016. Hillis won in the Discus Throw with a 52.65 meters throw a career-best.
The 4x100 Meter Relay team has been a strong grouping for the Black Knights this season. Junior Jose Santana, sophomore Tyler Davis, and freshmen Ben Sims and Kevin Dyer. They also own the top time in the league running a program record 40.44 in the annual Army-Navy meet.
Sims, who won an individual championship in the 60 Meter Dash at the indoor championships, paces all league competitors in the 100 Meter Run (10.47).
Two other individuals own the top marks in the league this spring. Senior Marcus Phillips has the best time in the 400 Meter Hurdles (53.60) and sophomore Pole Vaulter Lee Bares, who placed second at the outdoor championships last year and was the runner-up at the indoor championship, reached 5.20 meters at the Penn Challenge.
"I'm expecting all of our men to compete at a high level," said Smith. "We have a lot more depth than last year. I think we can score pretty well."
