Air Force Pulls Ahead of Gymnastics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 12 Army West Point gymnastics team dropped a 409.150-389.250 contest to No. 8 Air Force on Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights topped the Falcons in vault to stay in the match, but Air Force pulled away to put things out of reach.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- Once again, the Cadets exceled on vault. Ryan Wilson led the team for the third-straight week and posted a 14.150 for a second-place finish.
- Seth Cannon captured the All-Around title with a score of 77.050. His top showings were on pommel horse and parallel bars.
- Senior captain Leo Genders was the only other Black Knights to notch a 14.000, which he recorded on the high bar. This gave him first-place bragging rights in the event.
- The 14.000 on high bar was a season-high for Genders.
- In his only event of the day, Grant Cullen stepped in and posted a 13.500 on parallel bars, a season-high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army started the match off on the pommel horse. Nathan Goff led the group with a 12.950. He was followed by Rex Scott (12.800) along with Elija-Ty Phelps and Cannon who both notched a 12.700, respectively.
- Next up was the floor exercise where the Black Knights combined for a 64.700.
- Genders started things off with a 13.500 to place fifth. Cannon was the Cadets' top finisher with a 13.750 which tied him for third.
- Army then moved to the vault which has proven to be one of the team's strong suites.
- Wilson turned out a 14.150 to top the team for the third-straight match and finished second overall.
- Cannon (13.900), Genders (13.850) and Erik Del Cid (13.750) were fourth through sixth to help Army gain a 69.200-69.100 advantage on the apparatus.
- Darrell Yamamura and Wilson both turned out scores of 13.100 on the rings to tie for sixth.
- The high bar was also successful for the Black Knights led by Genders who had an even 14.000 to place first. Cannon followed with a 12.950 and Alejandro Tombrink (12.850).
- Cullen made his match debut on the final event, the parallel bars. He converted a 13.500

- The Black Knights will make their 2017 debut at the Gross Center next Saturday as the team hosts Navy at 1 p.m.
