Black Knights Depart for Patriot Classic

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team is set for George Mason's Patriot Classic this weekend in Fairfax, Va.
The Black Knights will open the tournament against the host Patriots on Friday at 3 p.m., before taking on Columbia Saturday at 10 a.m. A rematch of the first game against George Mason will occur at 12:30, before closing out the five-game set against Columbia (9 a.m.) and Fairfield (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday.

ARMY (6-4, 0-0 Patriot League)
• The Black Knights are riding a six-game winning streak after going 5-0 at last weekend's EMU Madeira Beach Invitational.
• Sophomore pitcher Renee Poirier was dominant in the circle for Army in Florida, and was rewarded as the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week after posting a 0.69 ERA while allowing just one run in 13 innings of work.
• Poirier notched her first-career no-hitter in an 8-0 victory over Columbia on Saturday.
• Rookie outfielder Amelia Trotter led the Black Knights offense, going 5-for-12 (.417), with two doubles, runs and RBI.
• Trotter's efforts earned her the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week honor.
• On the season, Poirier leads the team in multiple categories, including wins (three), appearances (five), starts (four), complete games (three), shutouts (one), innings pitched (27.0) and strikeouts (17).
• Army's offense has been led by its underclass, as 44 of the team's 55 hits have come from freshmen or sophomores.
GEORGE MASON (1-5, 0-0 Atlantic 10)
• Army is 3-1 in the all-time series against the Patriots, dating back to 2003.
• The Patriots are coming off their first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Buffalo.
• Sydnee Wells has been the bright spot in the George Mason lineup as the freshman catcher leads the team in hits (five), doubles (two), RBI (four) and slugging percentage (.583).
• On the bump, Marina Vitalich has been relied on heavily, tossing 19.2 of the 36.1 innings on the season.
• Vitalich sports an impressive 0.71 ERA after surrendering just six runs (two earned) on the season with a walk-to-strikeout ratio of 5:19.
COLUMBIA (1-3, 0-0 Ivy League)
• The Black Knights are now 2-6 all-time against the Lions after earning an 8-0 victory in five innings on Saturday.
• Columbia is coming off a 1-3 performance at EMU's Madeira Beach Invitational, dropping its first two games against Army and Albany.
• The Lions closed out the tournament with a 5-1 victory over host, Eastern Michigan, and a 3-2 setback against Kent State.
• The offense is led by Madison Gott, who has three hits on the year.
• Additionally, Sommer Gryzbek and Taylor Troutt each have two hits: a double and a homerun.
FAIRFIELD (0-5, 0-0 MAAC)
• The Cadets are 15-17 all-time versus the Stags in a series that started back in 1979.
• Fairfield is searching for its first win of the season after coming up empty at the Green & White Tournament at Charlotte. Its losses came twice against Robert Morris and La Salle and once against Charlotte.
• Tori Reed has gotten off to a red-hot start this spring, hitting at a clip of .421 (8-for-19), with one homerun and six RBI.
