Army Heads to Lafayette for First League Road Test

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team travels to Lafayette for its first Patriot League series on the road this weekend. Saturday is scheduled as a doubleheader, while Sunday will be a single game. Action on both days is slated to begin at 12:05 p.m.

ARMY (24-11, 4-2 Patriot League)
• Army holds a 71-19 record in the all-time series against the Leopards, the program's best record against a single opponent.
• The Black Knights are looking to regain their footing in league play after dropping last Sunday's doubleheader against Holy Cross. They rebounded in Wednesday's non-league twin bill over Hartford with scores of 5-1 and 3-0.
• Rookie Emily Ballesteros blasted her first-career home run in game one against the Hawks, while classmate Macey Newbary posted her first career complete-game shutout in the night cap.
• Ashley Yoo leads the Cadets with a batting average of .402 and 33 hits.
• Ballesteros continues to provide the pop in the middle of Army's lineup, pacing the squad in extra-base hits (12), doubles (8), triples (3), RBI (23) and total bases (48).
• Caroline Smith and Renee Poirier lead the team's pitching efforts with ERAs of 2.12 and 2.26, respectively.

• Lafayette is coming off a mid-week split against La Salle in which it won the night cap, 3-2.
• The Leopards enter the weekend with some momentum in the Patriot League, having defeated Lehigh 3-1 in the series finale for their first league win of the season.
• Samantha Sweigart is first on the team in batting average (.277), hits (13), runs scored (7), walks (3) and stolen bases (4) as one of three players to start all 17 games thus far.
• In the circle, Stephanie Thomas sports the lowest ERA on the staff (4.57) to go along with her 2-2 record.
