League Play Opens with Weekend Series at Bucknell

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team opens its 2018 Patriot League slate with a three-game set against Bucknell this weekend at Becker Field in Lewisburg, Pa.
The two league foes have battled it out on the field 92 times since they first met in 1991. The Black Knights hold a 57-35 all-time series lead over the Bison. Army has claimed the previous five overall meetings and five of the last seven series against Bucknell.

ARMY (8-15)
- Army has won five of its last seven games and recently split a doubleheader series with Yale on Tuesday in New Haven, Conn.
- With a .290 average, Emily Ballesteros leads the Black Knights at the dish. She's driven in a team-best 13 runs and was the first Cadet to reach 20 hits on the season.
- First-year pitcher Courtney Springman showcased her abilities inside the circle against the Bulldogs and tossed her fourth consecutive complete game. She has not allowed more than one earned run in any of her previous five starts and currently leads the Patriot League in strikeouts (61).
- Army boasts the second-best team ERA (3.66) in the league, while compiling the most punchouts (122).
BUCKNELL (8-16)
- The Bison enter league play after dropping 10 of their last 11 outings. The team most recently went 1-4 at the Mercer Bears Classic in Macon, Ga.
- Lauren Hadley and Meghan Kovac have both accumulated over 20 hits apiece. The duo has provided a lot of pop at the plate, combining for eight doubles, 11 home runs and 33 RBIs.
- Reanne Geffert is the team's top starter inside the circle, posting a team-best 2.84 ERA in 11 starts and 14 total appearances. She has fanned 57 batters in 69 innings of work.
- Bucknell has compiled the second-most hits (152) amongst Patriot League teams, while ranking first in dingers (17), runs scored (83), RBIs (70) and doubles (29). However, the Bison are susceptible to striking out, leading the league with 137.
