Casanova, Goff Advance to NCAA Finals Saturday

CHICAGO – For the second straight year, two Army gymnasts will advance to the NCAA Finals on Saturday after stellar first-round performances.

Nathan Goff placed tied for eighth on the high bar to advance to the finals in the event, while Cole Casanova qualified in the All-Around with a sixth-place showing.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MEET NOTES
- Casanova earned a 75.665 in All-Around to secure a qualifying mark for Saturday's finals.
- He had a standout performance on still rings with a 13.300 which placed him 14th.
- The mark on still rings was a career-high performance.
- Goff tied for eighth on the high bar with a 13.666 to advance for the second consecutive year.
- Ryan Sheppard of Stanford won the All-Around in the first session with an 80.865.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Casanova began the day on the pommel horse with a 12.000.
- He followed that up with a career-high 13.300 on still rings to rank third through that rotation.
- The junior captured a 13.866 on vault to rank third amongst All-Arounders halfway through the events.
- Casanova rounded out his appearances today on parallel bars (12.200) and high bar (12.233).
- Goff had two solid performances in the qualifying round. First the senior co-captain recorded a 13.300 on parallel bars.
- He then posted a stellar 13.666 on high bar to slide into second place through two rounds. He would hang on to finish tied for eighth.
- Alejandro Tombrink posted a mark of 13.033 on high bar to place tied for 20th. He followed that up with a 13.766 on vault.
- Seth Cannon capped his career with a 12.553 on floor exercise, while co-captain Nick McAfee earned marks of 11.100 on parallel bars in his NCAA debut.
- Matthew Martin made his first appearance at the NCAAs on pommel horse. The freshman notched a score of 12.333.
- Brandon Shively scored a 12.033 on pommel horse. It was his top score at the NCAAs in his career.
- Ryan Wilson was awarded 13.433 points on his final career vault.
- At his first NCAA competition, Taka Giese posted a 12.766 on still rings.
