#12 Black Knights Fall to #8 Cal

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 12 Army West Point gymnastics team fell in a virtual competition with No. 8 California, 380.7-371.55, Saturday evening.
The Black Knights had event wins from Mathew Davis, who earned a score of 13.5 in still rings, and Matthew Martin, who posted a 13.5 on the pommel horse.

FLOOR EXERCISE
- Miguel Aquino turned in the top performance for Army in the floor exercise with a 12.75, just .05 off his career-high score. The tally was tied with Cal's Kyle Abe for the second best score of the meet.
- Davis (12.65) and Corban Barstow (12.6) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
- Cal won the event 62.55-62.4.
POMMEL HORSE
- Matthew Martin claimed first on the pommel horse with a season-high score of 13.5, which was .3 points higher than the second place finisher.
- Cal, which earned the next three highest scores, won the event by a score of 61.4-59.3.
STILL RINGS
- Davis had a one-point improvement in the still rings from last weekend's competition, posting the meet's top score with a 13.5. His performance was .85 higher than Cal's Noah Newfield, who placed second.
- Kiernan Reagan had the next highest score for Army at 12.3 and right behind him was Connor Cavanagh, who set a new career high for the second consecutive meet at 12.25.
- The Black Knights edged the Golden Bears 62.3-62.1 in the still rings.
- Behind season-high scores, Davis (14.05) and Barstow (13.9) placed second and third in vault.
- Cavanagh finished fifth with a tally of 13.7.
- Cal managed to beat Army in the event, 68.5-68.1.
PARALLEL BARS
- On its way to a 64.45-62.05 triumph in the parallel bars, Cal earned the top five spots in the event.
- Army's top score came from Kiernan Reagan at 12.6, which was tied for the fourth best mark.
HIGH BAR
- Kalvin Kingshill had a career-best score of 12.1 and place fourth in the high bar.
- Davis was close behind at 12.05, which was good for fifth place.
- Cal won the event, 61.7-57.4.
- Davis took second in all-around with a 76.45.
