NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Army Black Knights had their program-record 10-game win streak come to an end with a 20-15 defeat to the Yale Bulldogs on Tuesday.
GAME SUMMARY
Army and Yale battled throughout the fast-paced 60-minute contest. The game was tied at 6-6 after the first quarter, and the Black Knights outscored the Bulldogs 8-7 in the second half. However, the difference in the game happened in the second quarter as Yale created separation by outscoring Army 7-1.
The Black Knights trailed 3-0 after four minutes before Caroline Raymond scored the first of her three goals in the quarter. Trailing 4-1 with less than six minutes remaining in the quarter, the Black Knights picked up goals from Kathleen Sullivan, Raymond, and Jolie Riedell to tie the game at 4-4 with 4:29 on the clock. The teams, then, alternated goals to close the quarter tied at 6-6.
Yale took over the contest in the second quarter with seven goals from five different goal scorers for a 13-7 lead.
Army chipped away at the deficit with goals from Sullivan and Armstrong to open the third quarter, but the Bulldogs answered with three straight goals. Julia Gorajek responded with three straight goals of her own as Army trailed 16-12 with 13 minutes left. The Black Knights cut the lead to 18-14 with 8:47 remaining but it would be the closest they would get.
CADET CAPSULES
- Kathleen Sullivan led the Black Knights in points with five, including a game-high two assists for 26 assists on the season to set a program record. She also added two ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Julia Gorajek led Army in goals with four and added two ground balls.
- Caroline Raymond had four points.
- Jolie Riedell added to her team-leading goal tally with two goals, won a team-high seven draw controls, and caused a game-high three turnovers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Army's 10-game win streak was the second-longest in the nation this season.
