Rifle Places Third at President’s Trophy Match

US AF Academy, Colo. – The Army West Point rifle team placed third in the annual President's Trophy Match held Saturday at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Rifle Range. The host Falcons, ranked No. 6 in the latest CRCA (Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association) poll, claimed their 11th straight title.
Air Force posted a 5890 team total in the five-man academy scoring format in outpointing the field consisting of Navy (5860), Army (5823) and Coast Guard (4719).
Freshman Brenna Green turned in the Black Knights' highest individual finish placing fourth in smallbore posting a 584 after besting Air Force's Lauren Hurley for that spot behind 33 center shots. In air rifle, junior Chris Jennings and freshman Addison Antwiler led the Black Knights firing scores of 593 and 592 for the sixth and seventh sports, respectively. It was the second-highest scores of the season for both Army shooters.
Jennings and Antwiler placed among the top ten in the aggregate scoring as well. Jennings fired an 1173 placing seventh, just two off fifth place, and Antwiler was tenth with an 1168.
Rounding out Army's top contingent in smallbore were Briggs Moore, ninth with a 581, Jennings posting a 580 for the tenth spot, Antwiler 15th (576) along with a 570 from freshman Nicholas Bull in placing 19th.
Plebe Barbara Forgues was among Army's top three finishers in air rifle behind a season-high 585 to place 13th.
In the four-man NCAA format, the Falcons' 4721 bested the field of Navy (4695) and Army (4674).
"Today was a tough match all around," reflected head Army coach Leighton Dempster. "Our inexperience with a young team showed, and I think we learned a lot from today to apply to our match against USAFA on Sunday."
The Black Knights and Falcons will square off Sunday at the Olympic Training Center for a dual match to close out their weekend in Colorado.
