WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point rifle team ushers in the second half of its season Saturday morning at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center, welcoming North Georgia at 8 a.m.
Idle since hosting Navy and Alaska Fairbanks in late November, the Black Knights (3-8) face a tough challenge in the second half of their schedule. After hosting North Georgia, Army closes out its conference slate, taking on defending Great America Rifle champion West Virginia (Jan. 31), followed by Navy (Feb. 7) and Akron (Feb. 14). The contest against the Midshipmen is the Star Match hosted at Tronsrue.
Army's young squad has been led by senior captain Chris Jennings, who is tied with sophomore Brenna Green for the highest mark in air rifle, as both have fired 595s, followed by sophomore Addison Antwiler's 594.
The Black Knights are averaging 2351.63 in air rifle, showing a 2326.13 in smallbore for a 1174.38 aggregate average. Jennings is averaging 591.5 in air rifle, 582.88 smallbore, and 1174.38 aggregate. Antwiler, Green, and Hannah Dufresne closed out the first half, averaging 587.13, 586.0, and 585.5 in air rifle, respectively. Antwiler has compiled 581.88 smallbore and 1169 aggregate averages.
"We're excited to get back on the range this semester," said head coach Leighton Dempster. "We had some great improvements on the scoreboard last semester, so now we shift focus to performance under pressure so that our hard work can start to translate into outcomes. The team is young, so I'm excited to see what they can do with a bit more experience."
