Softball Heads to Tennessee for MTSU Invitational

MURFREESBORO, TENN. – The Army West Point Softball team (1-14), heads to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the MTSU Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.
Army will play five games across the three-day weekend (March 1-3) starting on Friday vs. Middle Tennessee at 12:30pm EST.
All five games will be streamed/televised on ESPN+ and live stats will be available. Check the Army Softball schedule and/or the teams' social media for these links.
Joining Army, and Middle Tennessee State will be North Alabama, Detroit Mercy, and Bradley in the weekends competition.

QUICK HITTERS
- Last Saturday, February 24, Army won its first game of the season, 6-4 over Kennesaw State. Senior OF Kayla Edwards tied the game with an RBI triple and then the next batter, Ashton White belted a two-run go-ahead home run to center field to give Army a 6-4 lead. It was White's second homer of the season.
- In the win, Freshman P Katelyn Flanders (1-1), was phenomenal in relief, throwing 5.1 scoreless, giving up no hits and striking out six to shut the door on the Kennesaw offensive attack.
- Edwards is batting a team-high .354, 17-for-48, with five RBI, three triples, two doubles and has scored six runs. She is riding a five-game hitting streak going back to the start of last weekend's tournament.
- White leads the team with two home runs and 10 RBI.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- MTSU enters with a 4-12 record. A season ago the Blue Raiders were 42-20, qualifying for the NCAA Regional. Shelby Echols paces the lineup with a .373 batting average and 10 RBI.
- North Alabama enters at 10-5. Last weekend they went 3-1 with victories over Bradley, Western Carolina and UAB. Haven Kirby has a team-high .320 batting average, three home runs and 13 RBI.
- Detroit Mercy comes into the weekend, 0-5. Last weekend was their first weekend playing so far this season. A season ago, the Titans were 4-34 and two years ago, in 2022, they were 6-36.
- Bradley comes in at 3-7. A year ago, they were 15-40.
