Women's Lacrosse Surges to 17-7 Victory at Boston University

BOSTON – Army West Point women's lacrosse (4-6, 2-1 Patriot League) picked up a 17-7 victory at Boston University (4-5, 0-3 Patriot League) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Black Knights used a 10-0 run to turn its early second quarter 6-3 lead into a 16-3 advantage in the third.
Army's sophomore duo of Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly continued to wreak havoc offensively, as they each reached the eight-point mark for the second consecutive game. Reilly registered four goals and five assists while Duffy totaled five goals, three assists, four draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Julia Gorajek added a hat trick and assist while Lily Valentini tacked on a pair of goals to chip in offensively. Madeline Lenkart continued to command the midfield with four draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls while once again not committing a turnover. Sarah Chernik caused three turnovers to pace the unit while picking up two ground balls.
Lindsey Serafine was strong in the cage once again, stopping four Terrier shots while allowing just three goals before coming out of the game in the third quarter. Army outshot the Terriers 31-19 altogether while winning the draw 17-9.
After surrendering the first goal of the game, Gorajek got Army on level terms with a woman-down goal as Duffy provided a perfect assist. The Terriers answered immediately following the next draw, as the same Army duo then combined again as Gorajek notched her second to tie the game for the final time.
Reilly then got going for Army coming off her eight-point performance against Lafayette, first finding Valentini for a goal before scoring her first of the game from the eight-meter. Now leading 4-2, Duffy made it a three-goal game just before the break as she notched her first tally of the game with five seconds left in the first.
After outshooting the Terriers 8-6 in the first frame, it would turn to a 14-5 advantage for the Black Knights in the second. This was aided by a Boston red card which saw an extended woman-up advantage for Army.
The Black Knights capitalized three times during the five-minute stretch, with Valentini, Duffy and Gorajek each netting goals. Duffy and Carleigh Armstrong added tallies before the half, giving Army a commanding 11-3 lead at halftime. Army won 11 of 16 draws in the first half while committing six turnovers to Boston's six.
After ending the first half of on a 5-0 run, the Black Knights would achieve the same feat to begin the third quarter, beginning with another connection between Duffy and Reilly with Allison tucking home her second goal. Reilly would add the final goal of the 10-0 spurt to cap the run, after Madeline Lenkart and Ryan Remaly each made good on free-position shots.
Army ran down the running clock for majority of the second half, seeing one goal compared to three for Boston in the fourth quarter. It came via Reilly feeding Duffy as the duo each reached the eight-point threshold for the second consecutive game. Lacey Bartholomay and Anderson Strange saw time in the cage for Army in the final frame, as the Black Knights came home with a 17-7 win, giving it five straight victories over the Terriers.
Army will turn around to host Lehigh this Saturday, with opening draw at noon from Michie Stadium.
