March 30, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, NY – Army West Point women's lacrosse (5-6, 3-1 Patriot League) picked up its third straight conference win with a 19-7 victory over Lehigh (6-4, 2-2 Patriot League) from Michie Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly continued their rapid scoring pace, with each improving their streak of logging at least eight points to three games. Duffy matched a career-high with seven goals while registering a game-high nine draw controls. Reilly added four goals and four assists, as Army poured in a season-high 19 goals in the effort.
Madeline Lenkart led the defensive effort once again with four caused turnovers and three ground balls as Lehigh turned the ball over 15 times compared to Army's four. Lindsey Serafine picked up her third straight win in the cage with another strong performance, making six saves on 13 shots faced after allowing the first five in.
Ryan Remaly posted her second hat trick of the season while Julia Gorajek had a pair of goals and assists for a four-point effort. Seven different Black Knights scored in total as Lenkart, Gabrielle Mirak and Marissa Massey added goals. Massey was dominant in the draw circle as well, helping Army to a 19-10 advantage in the draw while controlling five herself.
Army got out on the right foot with a free-position goal from Duffy in the opening minute, but the Mountain Hawks would go on a run throughout the first which saw them take a 4-1 advantage. Reilly got herself going with an unassisted score later on, but a Lehigh goal with 18 seconds left in the quarter saw a 5-2 lead taken into the second frame.
The Black Knights were then able to keep Lehigh scoreless for the opening 11 minutes of the next stanza, thanks to three saves from Serafine as Army mounted its comeback. Mirak and Duffy had goals in the opening five minutes, before a score from Lenkart after a shifty move eventually tied the game at five with 5:14 left in the half.
The goals kept coming after that, with Reilly and Duffy each adding a solo goal within the minute which gave Army its first lead and two-goal cushion of the contest. Lehigh answered with a goal, before Army rattled off three more scores to take a 10-6 lead into the half. After a Reilly goal with 27 seconds remaining, Massey won the ensuing draw control and took it to the cage herself before firing in her second goal of the season. Army had just two turnovers at the break and held a four-goal advantage.
Both offenses struggled in the third, recording just one goal each as Cassie Marte and Gorajek had the lone scores of the frame which led to an 11-7 Army lead being taken into the fourth.
The final quarter saw a frenzy of Army goals, as the Black Knights scored eight times while shutting out the Mountain Hawks in the final 15 minutes. Duffy and Reilly were at their best leading the charge, each posting five points in the quarter while assisting one another four times in the frame. Gorajek had a goal and an assist as well in the closing minutes, as Ryan Remaly then put a bow on the victory with a highlight rell behind-the-back goal in the final minute off a feed from Carleigh Armstrong.
Army outshot the Mountain Hawks 33-18 total including 13-5 in the second half. Army improves to 3-1 in the Patriot League, having scored 17 or more goals in three straight games while not allowing more than seven goals in each.
The Black Knights will turn the page to American, as Army will play host to the Eagles for Senior Day at Michie Stadium on Saturday at noon.
