Softball Picks Up Patriot League Win Against Bucknell
March 31, 2024 | Softball
LEWISBURG, PA- The Army West Point Softball team (5-25, 1-5 PL) secured a victory against Patriot League rival Bucknell (14-17, 5-1 PL) in the final game of the weekend series, edging out a 3-2 win.
In the first inning, Army got off to a strong start when Ashton White hit her first triple of the season, allowing Parker Llantero to score and giving Army an early 1-0 lead.
Following suit in the second inning, Mia Bonsignore singled to bring Sophie Smith home, extending Army's lead to 2-0.
Army's starting pitcher, Amanda Eaglin, pitched impressively in the first four innings, keeping Bucknell scoreless and conceding a single hit.
It wasn't until the fifth inning that Bucknell managed to get on the scoreboard. The Bison secured two runs off back-to-back RBIs from Bella Radican and Noelle Gardon, tying the score at 2-2.
The remaining two innings saw a defensive pitching battle between Army's relief pitcher Lauren Levendoski and Bucknell's Hunter Vestal. Both pitchers kept the opposing batters at bay, resulting in extra innings.
In the eighth inning, the Black Knights regained the lead thanks to an RBI from freshman Sam Bocis, sending pinch runner Maaika Dones home.
Levendoski closed out the game in the bottom of the eighth, recording three strikeouts to secure her first career victory as a pitcher.
Ashton White had an impressive hitting performance for the Black Knights, going three-for-three on the day and adding an RBI.
Army will next host a non-conference midweek doubleheader against Seton Hall. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
