Women’s Basketball Defeats Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Army West Point Women's Basketball team (12-3, 4-1 PL) defeated Lafayette (4-12, 1-4 PL) on the road in a midweek matchup.
The Black Knights tied the program record for made three-pointers in a game, sinking an impressive 15 shots from beyond the arc.
Fiona Hastick led the charge with a season-high 20 points, while Camryn Tade recorded the first double-double of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds to help secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Reese Ericson set the tone early, hitting a three-pointer on Army's first possession. Moments later, Kya Smith added a fast-break layup off a rebound and assist from Tade, showcasing the Black Knights' defensive intensity. Midway through the first quarter, Ericson and Tade connected on back-to-back three-pointers, extending the lead to double digits. Lafayette struggled to respond, plagued by turnovers and missed shots. Tade capped the quarter with a strong rebound and a three-pointer, giving Army a commanding 23-12 lead.
In the second quarter, Lafayette adjusted defensively, slowing Army's pace. The Leopards hit a contested jumper to cut into the lead, but Army responded with a three-pointer from Trinity Hardy off an assist by Ericson. Lafayette answered with a quick jumper of their own. Late in the quarter, Army capitalized on second-chance opportunities, with Hastick and Tade dominating the boards. The Black Knights entered halftime with a 37-29 advantage.
Lafayette opened the second half with a quick bucket, trimming the deficit. Army responded with Tade's offensive rebound and tip-in layup. Hardy followed with a steal that led to Smith's fast-break layup. Midway through the quarter, Hastick nailed a critical three-pointer off an assist from Ericson to halt Lafayette's momentum. Although the Leopards chipped away with inside baskets, Army's defense, including a key block from Hastick, held strong. Late in the quarter, Sam Tillson converted a layup, extending Army's lead to 55-43 entering the fourth quarter.
Lafayette opened the fourth quarter with a strong push, scoring five unanswered points to narrow the gap. Army responded with a second-chance layup by Tade, assisted by Ericson, but Lafayette hit a three-pointer to pull within six. Army regained control midway through the quarter, with Hastick knocking down a jumper in the paint and assisting on Hardy's three-pointer shortly after. Lafayette remained competitive with another three, but Army's defense stepped up once again with Hastick recording a key block and Ericson grabbing a crucial steal.
In the final two minutes, Army maintained its composure. Hastick converted a fast-break layup to keep the lead at nine, and Hardy added a free throw to seal the victory. Ericson's late steal ended any hopes of a Lafayette comeback, as Army secured the 74-65 win.
