December 13, 2025 | Hockey
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Army West Point hockey (5-9-4, 2-8-3 Atlantic Hockey America) played their second road game of the weekend as they took the trip up to Burlington, Vt. to face off with the Vermont Catamounts (5-9-0, 3-5-0 Hockey East) on Saturday night.
After holding Vermont scoreless in the first period, Black Knights put the pressure on in the later periods to claim their second shutout victory in December.
JJ Cataldo returned between the pipes for Army with 22 saves against Vermont's 22 shots on goal.
The Catamounts Aiden Wright out to face Army in goal and he delivered 11 saves on Army's 14 shots on goal.
The two teams settled in for a battle throughout the first period, holding each other below ten shots on goal for the first 20 minutes of action.
Vermont controlled the initial offensive efforts with seven shots on goal to Army's three, but steady work from Cataldo and Wright held the game scoreless through the first frame.
Army drew a pair of power play opportunities in the second period as it fought to open the scoring.
Vincent Salice put Army on the board with 57 seconds left on the clock and his sixth goal of the season after Jack Ivey caused a turnover for the Catamounts as they made an advance into the Black Knights' defensive zone.
Ivey sent the puck he stole up the ice to Salice who put his tremendous speed on display to go head-to-head with Wright and lift the puck over the netminder's blocker to give Army a 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Catamounts came out swinging in the third period with three shots on goal in the first five and a half minutes of play as they sought to cut into Army's momentum.
Army's determination won out, however as Ben Ivey finished a setup from Nils Forselius one second before the 12-minute mark after Forselius and Brent Keefer combined to take the puck from Vermont and carry it into the offensive zone through the Catamount defense.
Jack Ivey struck again for Army two and a half minutes later after a strong forechecking effort from Adam Marshall gave Army a dangerous chance deep on Vermont's side of the ice.
The Black Knights held off a late series of shots from the Catamounts to secure their second shutout of the season.
