Baseball Drops Series Finale at UNA
February 15, 2025 | Baseball
MADISON, Ala. – Army West Point Baseball was looking to win its season-opening series vs. the North Alabama Lions Saturday, but were held in check offense and fell 5-0 at Toyota Field.
The Black Knights drop the series after splitting Friday's doubleheader.
Army sent the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning with nobody on base. However, an inning-ending double play stranded the baserunners before anyone could score.
Bryce Brownlee started on the mound for Army, pitching four innings. He allowed three runs and absorbed the decision.
For the second time in the series, UNA opened the scoring in the first inning. A Lion RBI single and a sacrifice fly made it 2-0.
The Lions tacked on another run in the fourth inning with a one-out double to left center.
Huntsville native Paul Andrzejewski and Thomas Schreck led off the eighth inning with back-to-back base hits in the eighth and ninth spots in the lineup, but neither were able to be driven in.
UNA gave themselves insurance in the bottom of the inning with a pair of solo home runs.
By the Numbers
2-for-3: Andrzejewski was 2-for-3 Sunday.
2: Across three shutout relief innings, Robbie Penswick struck out two batters.
Black Knight Notes
Mark Abell made his season debut in the batting order, at the DH spot. He previously pitched in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader.
Penswick made his season debut out of the bullpen and was followed by freshman Kevin Reavey who made his career debut in the eighth.
