McDaniel Wins 149 lb EIWA Title, Four Clinch Berths to NCAA Championships
March 08, 2025 | Wrestling
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point Wrestling's Trae McDaniel won the 149 lb EIWA Title Saturday, and four Black Knights secured their sports at this month's NCAA Championships.
Â
Charles Farmer (125 lbs), Dalton Harkins (174 lbs) and Brady Colbert (285 lbs) will join Treanor in Philadelphia March 20-22, with remaining wrestlers still eligible for an at-large berth.Â
Â
In the team score standings, Army finished in a tie for third place with Navy, at 116.5 team points. Drexel (122.5) finished in second place, and Lehigh (143.5) took first.Â
Â
McDaniel is the 31st EIWA individual champion in Army history, and first since Ben Pasiuk (174 lbs) in 2021. The native of Chattanooga, Tenn. is also the first Black Knight to win the EIWA at 149 lbs since Matt Kyler in 2010.Â
Â
The junior and No. 1 seed at 149 lbs recorded a 1-0 win over Drexel's Dominic Findora and a 16-2 major decision win over Navy's Kaemen Smith Friday, setting up a showdown with second-seeded Malyke Hines of Lehigh Saturday, which McDaniel won 7-5.
Â
Farmer claimed second place at 125 lbs, needing to at least make the finals for an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. A 14-4 win over American's Coen Bainey and an 8-6 victory over Drexel's Desmond Pleasant got him there, extending his season despite a loss to Sheldon Seymour of Lehigh in the finals.Â
Â
Harkins punched his ticket to Philadelphia by way of reaching the 174 lb consolation finals, withstanding a championship semifinal loss to defeat American's Caleb Campos in the consolation semifinals. Harkins won by major decision over Jasiah Queen of Drexel to claim third place.
Â
Finally, Colbert needed to win his consolation final to grab the last of three allocations at heavyweight. A Friday night loss in the semifinals forced him to battle back Saturday, but two wins on the final day secured his spot in Philadelphia. Colbert defeated Bucknell's Logan Shephard and then claimed third place with 10-4 win over Morgan State's Xavier Doolin, avenging a loss in the regular season.
Â
Ethan Berginc (133 lbs) also finished in third. Richard Treanor (141 lbs) came in fifth, Wolfgang Frable (197 lbs) also finished fifth, Gunner Filipowicz (165 lbs) took sixth and Jakob Gilfoil (184 lbs) came in eighth.Â
