No. 19 Women's Lacrosse Tops Holy Cross, 13-11

WORCESTER, MA – Army West Point women's lacrosse (11-2, 6-1 Patriot League) extended its winning streak to six games with a 13-11 victory at Holy Cross (8-6, 4-3 Patriot League) on Wednesday evening.
Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly each recorded four goals and an assist to pace the offense as Duffy added three ground balls and three draw controls.
Lindsey Serafine had a strong performance in goal for the Black Knights, stopping 12 shots while allowing 11 goals, improving to 11-2 this season in the cage.
Sarah Chernik led the defense with three caused turnovers as Meghan Pedrani logged two caused turnovers and four ground balls with Reilly Sullivan chipping in a pair of caused turnovers.
The Black Knights got out to a quick start with Reilly winning the opening draw which led to a Gabrielle Mirak goal just 19 seconds in.
The Crusaders picked up a pair of cards in the early stages, as Duffy converted from the eight-meter with a woman-up tally at the 9:28 mark of the first which part Army ahead 2-0.
The Crusaders battled back for the next two goals, but took a yellow card with two seconds remaining in the quarter as the teams went to the second frame knotted at two.
Army's offense converted with the advantage, as Ryan Remaly tabbed her 15th tally of the season to bring the lead back into the hands of the Black Knights.
Reilly notched a brilliant behind-the-back goal minutes later to give the Black Knights a 4-2 lead as the goal was quickly answered by the Crusaders by a pair of goals to tie it up at four.
The Crusaders continued to put Army on the eight-meter and on the woman-up, as returning first team all-league performer Ella Kittredge was assessed her second yellow card which results in a red card. Duffy made the Crusaders pay once again with an eight-meter goal while woman-up.
Duffy scored the next two for the Black Knights in open play to give her four first half goals, as the teams eventually went into halftime with Army leading 8-7 as Reilly tabbed the final goal of the half.
Army's defense was stout to begin the second half, as goals from Reilly, Remaly and Garrett put Army ahead 11-7 as the Crusaders were shut out for the opening 13:46 of the third.
Annabel Brennan broke the scoreless drought for Holy Cross, as Army took an 11-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
The two sides dug in defensively in the fourth on a brisk night, as the game was scoreless through the opening half of the frame before a free-position score from Holy Cross made it a two-goal game with 7:04 to play.
The Black Knights were able to answer with the next two which put the game to rest, as Mirak and Reilly scored consecutively to put Army ahead 13-9.
Holy Cross added two in the closing minutes, as the Black Knights secured the win with the defense holding strong at the end of the contest.
Army secured its spot in the Patriot League Tournament with today's results around the league and will look to secure its first round bye on Saturday, as the Black Knights will host Bucknell at 3 p.m. for senior day from Michie Stadium.
