Baseball Adjusts Senior Weekend vs. Rider
May 01, 2025 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Due to inclement weather in the forecast for this weekend, Army West Point Baseball has adjusted its regular season finale weekend vs. Rider at Doubleday Field.
Â
The teams will now play Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The senior day ceremony is still scheduled for Saturday. Both days will feature a single game. No games are scheduled for Sunday any longer.
Â
Notes and Storylines
Â
» Army has locked into the No. 3-seed in the Patriot League Baseball Championships. This will see the Black Knights travel to Navy for a best-of-three series May 10-11. The winner will advance to the best-of-three championship series May 17-19.
Â
» Heading into extra innings deadlocked, Army West Point Baseball broke a pitchers' dual turned stalemate in the 10th inning April 25 at the Bucknell Bison, plating three runs in the bonus stanza to win the weekend series opener, 4-1.
Â
» The Black Knights won by run-rule for the fourth time this year Wednesday, defeating LIU 11-1 in eight innings. Army's plus-13 hit margin was the best in a game by the team this year. Chris Barr and Addison Ainsworth each collected home runs.
Â
The extra innings game was just the second this year for Army after previously playing 11 innings at Air Force February 28. It also represented the first extra inning game in Patriot League play since playing eight innings in a scheduled seven-inning contest at Lehigh March 30, 2024. Friday's game was the longest Patriot League game for Army in terms of innings played since April 3, 2023—a 3-2 win over Navy—and Army's first extra innings win since April 11, 2023 vs. Stony Brook.
Â
» RHP Andrew Berg recorded his 100th career Army strikeout in Friday's win at Bucknell. Berg, who leads the team with 59 strikeouts this year, allowed just one earned run over his eight-inning start Friday (a solo home run), and improved his league-leading ERA to 2.57. Berg's eight inning start was his second appearance of eight innings or longer, after going 8.1 frames at Navy March 15. Friday's contest was also his fifth outing of seven innings or longer as well as his fifth quality start this year.
