WEST POINT, N.Y. – Jenn Salomon-Clayton had been promoted to Army West Point's Penny Anderson Women's Rugby Head Coach Monday, as announced by Director of Athletics Tom Theodorakis.
Salomon-Clayton served as the Interim Penny Anderson Women's Rugby Head Coach since she was named to the role in November 2024.
"We are thrilled to officially name Jenn Salomon-Clayton as the Penny Anderson Women's Rugby Head Coach," commented Director of Athletics Tom Theodorakis. "Over the past season, Jenn has demonstrated outstanding leadership, a deep understanding of the game at the highest levels, and an unwavering commitment to the growth and success of our cadet-athletes. Her ability to foster a competitive and values-driven culture perfectly aligns with the mission of West Point, and we're confident she will continue to elevate the program on and off the field."
After joining the program mid-season, Salomon Clayton helped the Black Knights advance to the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) Semifinals. The Black Knights entered the postseason tournament as the No. 3 seed and took on No. 2 seed and eventual NIRA Division I Champions Harvard, where they fell 26-19 to the Crimson.
Four Black Knights earned All-NIRA honors for their work in the 15s season, with Alissa Eisenhart and Yesenia Morales earning First Team honors while Chloe De Leon and Cecilia Ollis represented Army on the Second Team.
Salomon-Clayton helped coach the Black Knights to a strong season with 81 points for Alissa Eisenhart – making her the new all-time 15s points leader in program history, 30-point seasons for Yesenia Morales, Stevie-Rae Ricklick, and Chloe De Leon, and a 25-point season for Cecilia Ollis – putting her 18th in program history for career 15s points with 55 career 15s points.
The Black Knights were a dominant force in the 7s season, racking up a 15-6 record across their four spring tournaments, highlighted by their second-place finish at the College Rugby Championships and a fourth-place finish at the Collegiate Rugby Association of America 7s Championship.
Salomon-Clayton originally joined the Army West Point coaching staff as an assistant coach in October 2024.
"I'm incredibly honored and grateful to lead Women's Army Rugby," said Jenn Salomon-Clayton. "This team is defined by excellence, character, and an unwavering commitment to service, which is exactly what makes them so special. It's a privilege to walk alongside these cadet-athletes in their journey as future leaders of our country. Their grit, humility, and heart inspire me every day. Together, we'll build on the WAR legacy and continue to elevate this program with pride and purpose."
A former collegiate and current professional rugby player, Salomon-Clayton brings a wealth of experience to the Black Knights. She played four years at Quinnipiac University, serving as team captain, before joining the New York Rugby Club in 2017. That same year, she was part of the team's USA Rugby Women's Premier League (WPL) National XV Championship.
As team captain, she led the New York Rugby Club to third place finishes at the WPL XV championships in 2018 and 2019 and helped secure a fifth-place finish in the 2018 USA Rugby National 7s tournament. She was also named 2017 New York Rookie of the Year and earned WPL All-Star East honors. In 2025, Salomon-Clayton was a Foundational Five member of the New York Exiles in the first professional women's rugby league in the United States.
Since 2019, she has competed internationally with the Mexico 7s National Rugby Team, helping the squad earn a silver medal at the 2023 Central American Games and contributing to appearances at the 2021 HSBC Fast Four, the 2022 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series stop in Langford, British Columbia, and the 2022 and 2023 HSBC World Rugby Challenger Series.
Following her playing career at Quinnipiac, Salomon-Clayton began her coaching journey at Sacred Heart University, helping transition the program from club to NCAA varsity status. During her six-year tenure, Sacred Heart produced nine NIRA All-Americans, three Honorable Mentions, and the program's first-ever USA Rugby All-American.
