September 20, 2025 | Men's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the seventh consecutive match, Army West Point men's soccer registered a point after tying Lehigh 3-3 at Malek Stadium on Saturday night.
The seven-match streak is the longest since the 2013 season.
Army (3-1-4, 1-0-1) had a massive first half, scoring three goals in the opening 45 minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room at halftime. Lehigh (3-2-3, 1-0-1) roared back in the final four minutes, scoring a pair of goals to even the game and force a draw.
The Black Knights opened the scoring in the 13th minute, as Ronald Zhai recorded his second goal of the season with a right-footed shot inside the box. He got a great feed off a header from Jack Meyer, who recorded his second assist of the season. Zhai now has six career goals after scoring four during his freshman campaign.
Army doubled its lead in the 31st minute on an own goal by Lehigh. Army's Jacob Nyugen fired a cross from outside the box, with the ball deflecting off a Lehigh defender and into the back of the net.
With things seeming to be unraveling for the Mountain Hawks, Giacomo Zizza put Lehigh on the board with a goal in the 32nd minute to cut the Black Knight lead in half.
Despite the Lehigh's quick response to Army's 2-0 lead, the Black Knights got back on the offensive, and it paid off in the 43rd minute as Jack Kryger notched his first goal of the season on a header inside the box off a beautiful free kick from defender Owen Ennis from just in front of the midfield circle. It was Army's first successful set piece goal this season.
Coming out of the halftime break, Army continued to control the tempo and registered nine second-half shots. The Black Knights seemed to be headed towards their second Patriot League win of the season with five minutes to play but the Mountain Hawks had other ideas.
In the 87th minute, Zizza scored his second goal of the game to bring Lehigh back within one. Less than two minutes later, the Mountain Hawks tied it after a corner kick deflected off an Army play and into goal.
Despite the result, Saturday was the best offensive day of the season for the Black Knights as it registered season-highs in goals (3), shots on goal (7) and total shots (15). Three goals are also the most scored by the Black Knights since it had three against Air Force on Aug. 24, 2023.
The Mountain Hawks had four shots on goal and 11 total shots. They also won the corner kick battle 5-4.
Defensively, Michael Guiry made two saves and moves to 3-0-3 on the season. For the Mountain Hawks, Anton Kinnunen recorded five saves and is 3-2-3 on the year.
