Wrestling Announces CJ Morgan Invitational Naming
October 12, 2026 | Wrestling
WEST POINT, N.Y. (October 12, 2026) – Army West Point Class of 1972 Head Men's Wrestling Coach Troy Nickerson has announced that the annual Black Knight Invitational is now known as the C.J. Morgan Invitational.
The tournament is named after C.J. Morgan, an Army Wrestling cadet-athlete and member of the Class of 2020, who tragically lost his life due to injuries sustained from a military vehicle accident.
"In my short time here at West Point, it has become very apparent to me what C.J. meant to this team and everything he stands for. Finding a way to honor him was the right thing to do in order to preserve his legacy forever," said Nickerson.
Morgan—a native of West Orange, N.J.—collected a 28-22 record across matches at both 184 and 197 lbs, including a 19-13 record as a plebe with eight bonus point wins.
The inaugural CJ Morgan Invitational will be held at Christl Arena, on Sunday, November 22, with a 10:00 a.m. start. Army will host Penn State, Columbia, Hofstra, Bloomsburg and VMI for the event.
