October 17, 2026 | Men's Soccer
WORCESTER, Mass. – Army Men's Soccer fell to Holy Cross 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Mass. With the loss, the Army's record moves to 1-7-3 on the season with a 0-5-0 mark in conference play. The win breaks Holy Cross' two-game losing streak and moves them to 2-6-6 overall with a 1-2-3 conference record.
How it Happened:
Holy Cross jumped out to an early lead after an unassisted goal in the 3' by James Ferraro.
Facing an early deficit, Army applied offensive pressure in an effort to equalize the score but struggled to capitalize on the opportunities. Ronald Zhai registered the Black Knights' first shot on goal in the 10', forcing a save from Holy Cross goalkeeper John Smith.
Army continued to attack, earning a pair of corner kicks and creating chances in the 20'. Sebastian Woehl recorded a shot, but had his effort blocked by the defense, and just seconds later, Jack De Simone fired off a shot on target that was again denied by Smith. Jubril Bamgbala and Nicholas Berardi recorded shots in the 23' and 31', respectively, but were unable to put them on goal with Bamgbala's blocked, and Berardi's wide left.
Holy Cross struck again late in the half when Jack Fiedler's shot, assisted by Owen Everett, and Jude Jakes-McKay, found the back of the net in the 34' to make the score 2-0. Army captain Kelly Cooper attempted to get the Black Knights on the board before the half, but his shot in the 42' was blocked by the Crusader's defense.
Coming out of the locker room for the second half, the Army continued to search for a spark, creating several opportunities early in the second half. Following a corner kick in the 49', Kelly Cooper missed a shot just wide of the right post in the 51' and pushed another attempt wide right in the 60'. Nicholas Berardi also got a shot off in the 53' but it was sent high over the crossbar, and Ronald Zhai had another shot blocked in the 64' as the Black Knights tried to break through the Holy Cross defense.
The physical conference match took a turn in the 72' when Army was reduced to 10 players after Gunnar Guest was issued a red card for unsporting behavior. The Crusaders immediately capitalized on the man-up advantage in the 73', when Archie Hatcher scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season off feeds from Liam Heneghan and James Ferraro.
Army's Liam Tucker managed one final shot over the net in the 81', but the Black Knights were unable to get on the board and were handed a 3-0 shutout.
