Men's Soccer Falls to Lafayette at Home

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army Men's Soccer fell to Lafayette 1-0 on Saturday night at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field. The Black Knights' record moves to 1-5-3 on the season and 0-3-0 in conference play, and the Leopards move to 2-5-3 with a 1-1-2 conference mark.
Army outshot Lafayette, 16-13, and put 10 shots on goal, but Lafayette goalkeeper Francisco Benbow made 10 saves to preserve the 1-0 shutout.
How it Happened:
Army recorded the first 10 shots of the game and finished the opening half with an 11-5 shot advantage. Francisco Benbow made saves on shots from Riley Cullum (9'), Ronald Zhai (9'), Kelly Cooper (9'), Jubril Bamgbala (11'), Jack De Simone (18') and Justin Davidyock (20') during the first 20 minutes of the match.
Army continued to generate opportunities throughout the remainder of the half, with Sebastian Woehl, Jubril Bamgbala and Kelly Cooper each recording a shot. Lafayette goalkeeper Francisco Benbow stopped attempts from Bamgbala and Cooper, while Keanu Likewise made a save on a shot from Roy Biegon in the 39' at the other end.
Lafayette took a 1-0 lead with just 37 seconds remaining in the first half when Leopards' Lucas Gardeniers scored off an assist from Roy Biegon at 44:23.
In the second half, the Black Knights recorded five shots with Ronald Zhai, Reef McGee, Nicholas Berardi and Jack De Simone each recording a shot, while Lafayette's Benbow made saves on attempts from Zhai and De Simone. Army also took five corner kicks in the second half.
Keanu Likewise played a full 90' and made three saves in net for Army, stopping attempts from Roy Biegon, Samir Dishnica and Riley Martin.
Army kept Lafayette off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match, but the Black Knights were unable to score an equalizer goal.
