Men’s Soccer Rallies Three Times, Falls to Navy in Army-Navy Cup XV
October 09, 2026 | Men's Soccer
In front of 10,549 fans, the Black Knights repeatedly answered the Midshipmen's attack, erasing three separate deficits before a late Navy goal broke the tie. With the loss, Army moves to 1-6-3 overall and 0-4-0 in Patriot League play, while the Midshipmen improve to 3-5-4 on the season with a 1-3-1 in conference mark.
How it Happened:
Navy opened the scoring in the 35' when forward Will Smith finished a setup from Braedy Strothkamp and Jack Illig. The Black Knights responded less than 30 seconds later, benefiting from an own goal by the Navy defense in the 36' to pull even at 1-1 going into the half.
The second half was a fast-paced offensive exchange. The Midshipmen retook the lead in the 54' on a strike from Keane Brown, assisted by Ryan Skandalis and Duncan Sullivan. Army evened up the match again in the 68' after Jack De Simone found the back of the net off passes from Sebastian Woehl and Jubril Bamgbala.
The Midshipmen recaptured a 3-2 advantage just over two minutes later when Duncan Sullivan scored off a feed from Nick Gallucci in the 70'. Army continued to apply offensive pressure and found the equalizer in the 81', with Bamgbala finishing an assist from Owen Ennis to even the score once again at 3-3.
Navy delivered the decisive goal at the 84:02 mark as Gavin McBride scored off a pass from Wyatt Stevens and Duncan Sullivan. Army continued to pressure the Navy defense in the closing minutes, with Riley Cullum getting off a shot off the left post in the 86' and Nicholas Berardi getting off a shot over the crossbar, but Navy was able to shut down the Black Knights to secure the victory.
With the win, Navy reclaims the Army-Navy Cup and the star in the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA for the first time since 2021.
