February 08, 2026 | Softball
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Army West Point softball (2-3) used an offensive onslaught and a no-hitter to defeat the University of Delaware Blue Hens (1-3), 13-0, to close out its appearance at the FAU Paradise Classic.
The Black Knights finished the game combining for 12 hits in just five innings of play. Taylor Brown led with three hits, scoring three runs and adding an RBI. Emma Murchison added two hits alongside a team-high three RBIs. Sienna Tepley also added two hits, both doubles, and an RBI.
Five more Black Knights got in on the hitting party, with Annie Christiana, Ashton White, Caitlyn Newburn, Breanna Coonfare and Anna Mauch each adding a hit. White's hit served as a two-run home run, the first one for Army in 2026. Coonfare's hit served as a two-RBI triple, the first triple a Black Knight has knocked this season. Mauch's hit served as the first career hit for the freshman.
Breanna Izzo put on a show inside the pitcher's circle, earning the first no-hitter of the season for the Black Knights. The senior pitched the full five innings before the run rule, finishing with five strikeouts and 10 putouts, only allowing one on with a single walk.
How It Happened
Army took immediate control of the game in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs off three hits and two walks to give the Black Knights an early 4-0 lead.
Annie Christiana started it off with a lead-off single, with Taylor Brown coming right behind her to hit a double. Ashton White reached on a fielder's choice, with the Blue Hens getting Christiana out at third. Caitlyn Newburn drew a walk to load the bases, then Hannah Laub drew another walk to send Taylor Brown home for the first run of the game.
During the next at-bat, Ashton White took advantage of a wild pitch and ran home, making the score 2-0. Breanna Coonfare would ground out but advance Newburn and Laub into scoring position, setting the stage for Army's next two runs. Emma Murchison would knock a single to right field, sending both runners home for two RBIs and to give Army the 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, Breanna Izzo picked up where she left off in the two teams' last matchup. She threw two strikeouts, and despite allowing one walk, the Black Knights got the putout at second base to send the game into the second inning.
Army's offensive onslaught continued in the top of the second inning, with the Black Knights scoring six runs off of six hits, taking a commanding 10-0 lead.
The offensive fireworks began right away, with Sienna Tepley hitting a lead-off double to start the inning. After a flyout, Taylor Brown added her second hit of the game with a single to third base and was able to send Tepley home for the first run.
Ashton White would strike out at her next at bat, with Army then scoring the next five runs with two outs on the board. Caitlyn Newburn would single through the right side, sending Brown to third, then Laub drew her second walk of the day to load the bases. Delaware would then throw a wild pitch at the next at bat, allowing all runners to advance, including Taylor Brown, to reach home for her second run of the day.
Breanna Coonfare kept the momentum on Army's side, hitting a triple, the first one from a Black Knight this season, to send Newburn and Laub home for two RBIs and to make it an 8-0 lead for Army.
During the next at-bat, Emma Murchison got her third RBI of the day with a single up the middle, sending Breanna Coonfare home to make it a 9-0 game. Emma Murchison advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Samantha Sims drew a walk at the next at-bat. Then, Sienna Tepley would hit her second double of the day, sending Emma Murchison home to make it a 10-0 game.
In the bottom of the second, Breanna Izzo and the Black Knights forced the Blue Hens to go three and out, with Breanna Izzo adding another strikeout in the inning. Both teams went three and out in the third inning, with Izzo and the Black Knights continuing to play lockdown defense.
The Black Knights tallied another run on the board at the top of the fourth inning. Army saw two outs to start the inning, then Emma Murchison reached on an error from the Delaware shortstop. Anna Mauch, who came in to pinch hit, knocked her first career hit, a single, to the center fielder. Then, an error by the Delaware outfield allowed Emma Murchison to add another run to make it an 11-0 game.
Delaware still remained unsuccessful in gaining a hit in the fourth, getting two groundouts to Taylor Brown at shortstop, and a strikeout from Breanna Izzo to send it to the fifth inning.
Army did its final bit of offensive damage at the top of the fifth inning. Taylor Brown got on base for the third time in the game on a bunt single. Then, Ashton White got her first hit of the day, a home run to center field. The first home run of the season for Army gave the Black Knights a 13-0 lead.
Finally, in the bottom of the fifth, Breanna Izzo made her final stand. She started the inning with her final strikeout of the game, then Delaware grounded out for two outs. The Black Knights had a slight scare on an error in the infield, letting a runner on base, but at the next at bat, Izzo forced another ground out to Taylor Brown at shortstop to seal the run rule win and Breanna Izzo's no-hitter.
