BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point baseball's Josiah Overbeek has been named Patriot League Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Monday, after helping lead the Black Knights to a sweep at Queens (NC) on February 27-March 1.
Overbeek hit .400 across the three games with homers on Friday and Saturday. He also notched a double in the series, a pair of walks and three RBIs.
On the mound, he appeared out of the bullpen on Friday and Sunday. He earned the win in Friday's season opener with a strikeout and 2.2 innings. In Sunday's game, he recorded a two-out save to secure the sweep. His 3.1 innings pitched over the series featured an .091 opponent batting average and no runs allowed.
Overbeek was part of the Black Knights' bullpen performance that combined for nine innings of work over the series and allowed zero runs.
Sunday's win clinched Army's first three-game sweep since defeating Lafayette in three games April 19-20 a season ago. Army's sweep was its first of at least three games on the road since beating Navy three times on April 22-23, 2023. The series sweep was also the Black Knights' first of three or more games over a non-conference opponent since a three-game sweep over UMass on March 14-15, 2015.
