Softball Completes Series Sweep In 5-1 Win Over Lehigh
April 12, 2026 | Softball
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point softball (22-20, 6-3) completed its first Patriot League series sweep of 2026 on Sunday, earning a 5-1 win over the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks (21-21, 3-9).
With the win, the Black Knights have swept the regular-season series against the Mountain Hawks for two straight seasons, the first time Army has accomplished this feat.
The Black Knights have now also won nine of their last ten Patriot League regular season series and have extended their overall winning streak to six-straight games.
Sienna Tepley and Hannah Laub finished the game with a team-high three hits each, both adding two doubles, with Tepley adding one RBI.
Ashton White and Breanna Coonfare each added two hits and one double, with White adding one RBI and Coonfare finishing with a team-high three RBIs. Caitlyn Newburn also added a double for the Black Knights.
In the circle, Amanda Eaglin earned the starting nod and secured her ninth win of the season, finishing the game, allowing only three hits and one run over 4.1 innings. Breanna Izzo came in as relief and earned a save for the second straight game, finishing with five strikeouts while only allowing one hit.
How It Happened
Eaglin set the tone early, retiring the side in order in the first and working efficiently through the opening innings. She kept Lehigh off balance with weak contact, allowing just one hit through the first two frames.
Sienna Tepley recorded Army's first hit of the game in the first inning, hitting a lead-off double, but the Black Knights were unable to convert a run.
Army then broke through in the second with a strong offensive sequence. Caitlyn Newburn sparked the rally with a leadoff double, and Hannah Laub followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A
After moving into scoring position, Breanna Coonfare delivered the key swing with a two-RBI double to give Army a 2-0 lead.
The Black Knights continued to generate chances with extra-base hits throughout the middle innings. Ashton White added a double in the third, while Laub kept the pressure on with another double in the fourth, though Lehigh was able to limit further damage.
Lehigh finally broke through in the fifth, using a pair of hits and a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 2-1. With runners on and momentum starting to shift, Army turned to Izzo out of the bullpen. She entered in a key spot and quickly recorded the final outs of the inning to preserve the lead.
Army responded immediately in the bottom half of the fifth. Sienna Tepley doubled and later scored on an RBI single from White, extending the lead to 3-1.
The Black Knights added insurance in the sixth, as Laub doubled once again and came around to score on another RBI knock from Coonfare. Tepley followed with an RBI single to cap a two-run inning and push the advantage to 5-1.
Izzo took full control from there. She dominated the final two innings, striking out multiple hitters and allowing just one baserunner while shutting down any chance of a Lehigh comeback.
On Deck
The Black Knights will continue their home stand on Wednesday, hosting the Iona University Gaels for Army's second consecutive midweek doubleheader.
Army seeks to avenge its midweek doubleheader losses in New Rochelle last season, seeing a 5-8 and 3-7 losses at Iona on April 16, 2025. Despite the two losses last season, Army has won seven of the last nine matchups against the Gaels dating back to 2012.
The doubleheader is set for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch, with the second game scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET. Both games will also stream live on ESPN+.
