Several Black Knights Achieve Career Milestones in Doubleheader Action at Bucknell
April 26, 2026 | Softball
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Army West Point softball (28-23, 8-6) hit the road for the first time since April 4 on Sunday, taking on the Bucknell University Bison (9-31-1, 6-8) in a doubleheader, earning a dominant 10-3 win before falling in a 6-5 extra-inning decision.
In game one, Army delivered a complete performance, using early power, a dominant middle stretch, and a strong finish to secure a 10–3 win over Bucknell.
The Black Knights came out aggressive early and leaned on timely power in game two, but Bucknell rallied late to edge the Black Knights in nine innings, 6–5.
Alongside the action on the field, several Black Knights hit career milestones and saw career firsts.
First on the offensive side, Ashton White finished the day batting .667 with six hits, seven RBIs and two home runs. The two homers allowed White to pass Kasey McCravey for the career home run program record, with McCravey having 26 and White now having 28 through her time at West Point.
Ashton White was not the only one with a home run in the doubleheader, with Caitlyn Newburn, Taylor Brown and Makaila Moosbrugger each adding a home run. Moosbrugger's deep ball in game two was also the first of her career.
As for pitching, two Black Knights achieved career milestones. Katelyn Flanders notched a team-high nine strikeouts to reach 200 career strikeouts through her first three seasons. Amanda Eaglin fanned three, becoming the sixth Black Knight in program history to reach 250 career strikeouts.
Breanna Izzo also pitched, starting and winning game one. The staff of three combined for a 1.37 ERA on the day.
GAME 1
Army wasted no time in the top of the first. After Taylor Brown ripped a double to center, Ashton White followed with a two-run home run to left center, giving the Black Knights a quick 2–0 lead. It was this first home run that gave White sole possession of the Army Softball career home run record.
In the bottom half, Breanna Izzo set the tone in the circle with a clean, efficient inning to keep Bucknell off the board. Then, Army broke the game open in the second inning with a five-run explosion.
Breanna Coonfare and Mia Bonsignore sparked the rally with singles before Sienna Tepley drove in a run with a base hit. Brown reached on an error that plated another, and White and Caitlyn Newburn added RBI singles.
Aggressive baserunning capped the inning, as another run, Ashton White, came across during a caught-stealing sequence, pushing the lead to 7–0. Izzo worked around traffic in the bottom half, stranding two runners to preserve the shutout.
The third inning was quieter offensively for Army, going down in order, but Izzo continued to manage the game effectively. Bucknell threatened with traffic on the bases, but Army limited the damage, cutting down runners at home twice before two unearned runs crossed, making it 7–2.
Army was held scoreless in the fourth despite a baserunner, while Izzo bounced back with a steady inning in the bottom half, aided by a strikeout and weak contact to keep Bucknell from building momentum.
The fifth inning saw Army go down in order, but Izzo again limited the damage. Bucknell managed one run on a sequence of hits and a groundout RBI, trimming the lead to 7–3, but Army avoided a bigger inning by closing it out with a ground ball.
Army's bats were quiet again in the sixth, but the pitching staff remained in control. Katelyn Flanders entered in relief and immediately made an impact, recording two strikeouts in the inning, including back-to-back punchouts to shut down any potential rally.
The Black Knights added insurance in the seventh. After Tepley reached and moved into scoring position, White delivered an RBI single. Moments later, Newburn drove the ball out to center for a two-run home run, extending the lead to 10–3 and putting the game firmly out of reach.
Flanders returned in the bottom of the seventh to close it out, highlighted by two more strikeouts, allowing her to reach 200 career strikeouts, as Army sealed the win.
GAME 2
Just like game one, Army struck immediately at the top of the first.
Sienna Tepley set the tone with a single and a stolen base, then Taylor Brown reached and moved into scoring position. Ashton White delivered a three-run home run to left field, her second of the day, putting Army in front 3–0.
In the bottom half, Amanda Eaglin was sharp early, recording two strikeouts to keep Bucknell off the board. With her first strikeout of the game, Amanda Eaglin became the sixth Black Knight to reach 250 career strikeouts.
Army added on in the second when Brown launched a solo home run to center field, extending the lead to 4–0. Bucknell answered with an unearned run, but Eaglin limited further damage and kept control of the inning.
The third inning saw Army threaten but strand three runners, while Eaglin worked through traffic and defensive miscues to keep Bucknell scoreless. In the fourth, Army left another runner in scoring position, and Bucknell capitalized in the bottom half with two unearned runs to cut the lead to 4–3.
Army's offense stalled in the fifth and sixth despite baserunners, and Bucknell took advantage in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs, both unearned, to take a 5–4 lead. Eaglin battled through adversity, and Katelyn Flanders entered in relief in the sixth, recording a key strikeout and inducing weak contact to keep the deficit at one.
Army responded in the seventh. After two quick outs, Makaila Moosbrugger came off the bench and delivered a clutch solo home run to left field, the first homer of her career, tying the game at 5–5.
Flanders kept Army in it late, highlighted by multiple strikeouts across the seventh and eighth innings, including back-to-back punchouts in the seventh to strand runners and force extra innings.
Army had chances in the eighth and ninth, putting runners on base but unable to break through. In the bottom of the ninth, Bucknell capitalized on a late opportunity, using a double to plate the winning run and secure the 6–5 decision.
