Black Knights Get Their First Win of the Season
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point women's soccer picked up its first win of the season Thursday afternoon, holding off a late William & Mary rally for a 3-2 victory at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field. It was the program's first home win of 2026 and the first-ever win in the newly renovated Malek Stadium.
Freshman Kamryn McWhinney scored twice in her first career multi-goal performance, while sophomore Ailyn Rowe notched her first career goal, as the Black Knights improved to 1-2 on the young season in front of a crowd of Army fans who braved the pouring rain.

McWhinney opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing from close range to give Army an early 1-0 lead. William & Mary (0-1-1) answered just after the break, tying the game on a penalty kick from Mia Abbey in the 47th minute, but the Black Knights responded almost immediately. Just 36 seconds later, Rowe found the back of the net off assists from Bella Conti and Sophia Henry, putting Army back in front, 2-1.
McWhinney added her second of the night in the 80th minute, extending the lead to 3-1 and capping a breakout performance for the freshman. William & Mary pulled a goal back in the final minute on a strike from Lindsay Wilson, but Army's defense and goalkeeper Karalyn Dail closed out the result.
Head Coach Tracy Chao praised her team for their response to a tough opening road trip to Colorado where the Black Knight's dropped games to Air Force and Colorado:
Dail was busy in net, making seven saves across all 90 minutes to secure the win. Army was outshot 18-9 on the night but made its chances count, converting three of its nine shots on goal.
The Black Knights' balanced attack was on display throughout, with four different players — McWhinney, Rowe, Conti and Henry — factoring into the scoring.
