Jack Riley enters his fourth season on the Army Hockey staff in 2025-26 and third as assistant coach. Riley served as the program's director of operations in his first year before a transitioning to assistant coach in August 2023.
Former Head Coach Brian Riley on adding Jack to the coaching staff:
"Jack is certainly no stranger to our program as he served as our Director of Operations last season. Because of the relationships that he established with our players last year, his transition to assistant coach will be an easy one. Jack knows this league very well as he was a former outstanding player in Atlantic Hockey. He has a great hockey mind and I know that he will be able to have a positive impact with our players both on and off the ice. The bottom line is that Jack has grown up around Army West Point Athletics and in particular Army West Point hockey and I’m not sure if we could’ve found anybody with a greater love and passion for our program and this Academy."
Riley, a Hobey Baker nominee and Atlantic Hockey All-Conference selection during his playing career at Mercyhurst University, joins the program after most recently serving as an assistant coach at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn. During his year-long stint with the Falcons, Jack also served as the video and recruiting coordinator along with handling various administrative duties for the staff. Prior to joining Albertus Magnus in 2021, Riley spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Manhattanville College where he obtained his master's degree in sports business management. With the Valiants, Riley also served as the recruiting coordinator while being the team's power play and video coach.
Riley served as a two-time captain for Mercyhurst University during his collegiate playing career. During his tenure with the Lakers, Riley made an immediate impact, being named to the Atlantic Hockey Conference All-Rookie Team in 2014-15 along with an NCAA Rookie of the Month honor in December 2014. Riley would go on to score over 100 points in his career, highlighted by his senior season where he was named Atlantic Hockey's Top Defensive Forward along with All-Conference Second Team honors. He was also a Hobey Baker Award nominee during the 2017-18 season, an honor given to the top NCAA men's hockey player after each season. Riley graduated with a bachelor's degree in business management in 2018.
"I'm extremely honored and grateful to be given the chance to come back home to West Point, a place where I grew up and have come to love over the years," said Jack. "I'm looking forward to contributing what I can to help this team win a championship. Lastly, I would just like to thank Coach Riley, Coach McKelvie, and Coach Marshall for the opportunity to be a part of the Army Hockey Family."
Following his successful collegiate career, Riley signed his first professional contract in 2018 with the Reading Royals of the ECHL. He would spend parts of two seasons in the ECHL, splitting time between the Royals and the Rapid City Rush before heading into coaching.
A native of West Point, Jack has spent his summers for over a decade assisting with the program's summer hockey camp, with further experience as a skills coach at the Westchester Skating Academy.
